I have great students, and I was reminded of this just today. After a little discussion about her project, Heidi decided to go ahead and email all of the principals in the school district asking permission to raise funds for the schools of Washington, Illinois. The tornado in November left many teachers and schools a little short handed, so she's making the effort to make a change. Here's the copy of her letter: |
Dear Mr. Hoffman, Mrs. Waterfield, Mr. Saunders, Ms. Albers, Ms. Grzanich, Ms. Kaufman,
Hi, my name is Heidi Pederson. I go to MJHS and am in the 7th grade. The reason for this email is because I’m doing a project in my L.A. class. Let me tell you a little about it.
For this project we could do a 30 or 60 day challenge, sell something online and create a business, or do a fundraiser. I chose to do a fundraiser. My goal is to collect Box Tops for Central School in Washington, Il. This is important to me because 7 of my friends lost their homes during the tornado in November. My little cousin (she’s kind of like my little sister!!!) goes to Central School. It was damaged and the kids are making do without a lot of items they were used to having. A lot of the teachers also lost their homes and will not be able to provide for their students as usual. I thought this would be a great way to help.
My idea is to have schools and people in Morton collect all of the Box Tops, Labels for Education, and Coke Points they can during one week in February. I would collect them at the end of the week and donate them to Central School. I would be happy to provide a flier to send home with each student. I couldn’t find contact information for PTO presidents from Lettie Brown, Lincoln, and Grundy Schools. If you could forward this message to them I would appreciate it. If possible, I would like their contact information.
I will follow up this email with a phone call this week to answer any questions or suggestions you might have. Please feel free to contact me at the email below. Thank you for any help that you can give me. I look forward to working with you on this project.
Sincerely,
Heidi Pederson

I'm so very impressed with her charity, the way in which she professionally addressed her letter, and how she's gone about her whole project.
Thanks to Heidi, her parents, and for all of the administrators that are willing to help her in her fundraiser.
